Lanyon High School was established in 1996, it is situated at the southern end of the Tuggeranong Valley in Canberra and is a member of the Lanyon Cluster of Schools.

The school was created to address the needs of young people in years 7 - 10 as they move from high school to further education, training or employment. The Lanyon High School vision is a school community working together for respectful Relationships, a safe Environment, high Achievement and quality Learning - A 'REAL education for a 'REAL' future. Commitment to the care, wellbeing and growth of each student supports the school in academic, cultural and sporting endeavours. A positive ethos prevails within the school led by the dedicated and enthusiastic staff who genuinely care about the important work they do.

The foundation of our curriculum is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy in all areas of the curriculum and through academic subjects including English, mathematics, science, history, geography and business studies. Students can study Japanese and a wide range of electives, including the arts, hospitality, outdoor education, information communication technologies, multimedia, horticulture and sustainability.

There are many opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities including sport, dance, drama, music and to study vocational education and training courses, work experience and Australian School Based Apprenticeships. We have also developed community partnerships with organisations such as Greening Australia and the Southern ACT Catchment group. Improving the learning outcomes of all students is a priority.

Teachers set high expectations for students in their learning and provide quality individual feedback through our Assessment for Learning approach. Using the Learning by Design framework to plan teaching and learning, teachers work collaboratively to ensure educational programs are of high intellectual quality which challenge and support students, which engage, motivate and value all students as individuals and which are connected to real world issues relevant to students' lives. Our goal is to prepare students to be active citizens in contemporary society and to be lifelong and lifewide learners.

The school also provides a safe environment and strives to build quality relationships between people through team learning and restorative practices, and embedding values education in the curriculum to develop values such as respect, responsibility, tolerance and acting with integrity. Our Student Services team which includes an executive teacher, a pastoral care coordinator, counsellor, youth worker and chaplain support students as individuals, always focusing on connecting them to their learning.

If you have an queries, or would like to make an appointment to have a look at our school or discuss your child, please do not hesitate to call the school to make an appointment.
