Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE)
In Studies of Society and the Environment, students have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the world around them. Emphasis is placed on interaction of humans with the environment and developing cultural understandings.
In all SOSE courses, the following skills are developed:
- Research and information literacy
- Discussion
- Cooperative group work
- Writing factual reports
- Examining sources and responding critically to them
In Years 7 and 8 SOSE is integrated with the English program.
Topics of study include:
- Geographical skills
- World biomes
- Current issues
- Contemporary society and culture
- Australia’s involvement at Gallipoli
- Changing beliefs and practices in health and disease
- Ancient history and mythology
In Years 9 and 10 students elect from courses such as:
- Ancient History
- Modern History
- Medieval History
- Legal Studies
- Business Studies
- Environmental Studies
- Natural Disasters
- World Geography
