In years 7 and 8 the eight key learning areas are amalgamated into three curriculum banks:
- English, SOSE and LOTE
- Mathematics, Science and Health & Physical Education
- The Arts and Technology
In this way a more realistic, integrated approach to teaching and learning is possible, rather than the more fragmented, traditional, separate disciplines style curriculum usually found in high schools.
The integrated approach to the curriculum emphasises literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.
In years 9 and 10 all students study a core curriculum supported by a number of extension study choices from within each of the three curriculum banks. One of these extension studies is a physical activity, the other three may be chosen from the three curriculum banks. Students are advised to choose a balanced mix of extension studies, considering their own interests as well as subjects they wish to study at college.
